My work is materialized mainly in painting, but I also explore other mediums such as posters, installations, scenographies, illustrated books and also textiles. I approach painting in an expanded sense, delving into its symbolic, spatial, and sensory dimensions, pushing beyond the traditional boundaries of the frame. Central to my practice is a deep fascination with color as a form of expression. This naturally extends to a focus on form and material, as these elements are inherently interconnected. My work frequently investigates the materiality of the artistic work, examining the materials used, their origins, their future, and their inherent qualities and potential. My practice is grounded in experimentation and research, with a strong emphasis on process and experience. Manual and artisanal techniques such as dyeing, sewing, felting, printing, and weaving, form the backbone of my approach. These processes arise from a hands-on experience, rooted in an intuitive flow between mind, hands, and heart, though not necessarily in that order. I am constantly looking for people to collaborate with, to mutually inspire each other by merging knowledge, ways of working, and disciplines, and to immerse ourselves in processes and pieces of collective creation. The project aims to bring contemporary creation into public high schools by fostering sustained, year-long collaboration between artists and students, with the goal of developing an artistic piece together. In my case, I worked with a group of 14-year-old students (4th year of ESO) from Serrat i Bonastre High School, in a residency curated and coordinated by A Bao A Qu and Joan Miró Foundation. The starting point for our project was colour, followed by form two elements we considered inseparable. From there, we began exploring how to occupy space and engage in a dialogue with the architecture of Joan Miró Foundation, questioning how our presence could transform the place. It was an intense and meaningful process, filled with doubt, uncertainty, and moments of vulnerability as well as technical challenges, unexpected turns, and last-minute changes. But finally, the magic slowly unfolded and things began to align and take shape. After many conversations, experiments, reflections, and shared intuitions, a collective piece emerged: a choral work that gathers the group’s diverse interests, techniques and sensibilities.100 metres of fabric — manipulated, combined, intervened, stitched, unfolded, and carried together through the halls of the Joan Miró Foundation — as a tribute to art, to diversity, to cohesion, to shared work, organized by Centre d'Art i Natura de Farrera, in October 2024. I used different old sheets and fabrics that I previously collected and dyed with laundry blue (blauet / azulete), a pigment with a very symbolic charge for its domestic use. Traditionally, it was used to whitewash the walls of houses, to make clothes whiter and&nbsp;to paint doors and windows frames to scare away demons. Applied in larger quantities, it dyes the fabrics in an intense and electric blue, which contrasts a lot with the natural colors of the village and the valley. Created especially for children, this piece proposes an allegory where the movement of walking backwards disarms the logic of linear time and reveals new ways of seeing, feeling and transforming reality. This show highlights "walking backwards" as a poetic and political gesture, where each step is an opening to the imagination. And where listening to the body and space is a driving force for change, designing a possible world within each movement. This dance fable thus evokes an ecosystem inhabited by hybrid beings, whose allegorical and imagistic character reflects and creates possible points of view for the future. It also poses questions such as: What is your horizon? What do you discover when you walk? Quan se m’apropa, l’alè d’un altre cos em recorre el nas, la faringe i l’esòfag fins arribar-me als pulmons. Tot allò que secreta l’esclat d’un riure podrà arribar- me a la boca, i empremtarà i regalimarà pel meu cos. És probable que el contagi passi així, o bé per aire o bé per aigua; també per contagi d’emocions, d’idees, de nervis o de ganes, que han permès als organismes que conformen aquesta mostra proliferar a través de la veu, l’afecte, potser de la telepatia. Martina Manyà planteja Contagi&nbsp;així, com a propagació d’intuïcions, relacions i processos materials; tambe&nbsp;de límits que, com la pell, s’estrenyen&nbsp;i s’eixamplen. Tots aquests manerismes, entonacions, i indagacions s’encomanen de cos a cos pels seus porus, líquids i sospirs grupals, però també per sinèrgies i simbiosis. Cada taca que es dissol sobre la tela n’esdevé també una empremta, desbordant o confinada per plecs, tall&nbsp;i estrips. Als granets que formen el teixit de cotó, la pintura n’inunda uns, en voreja d’altres; cada obra opera a mode de&nbsp;llacs o d’embassaments, precipitant-se, contenint-se o bé emergint sobre la tela. En aquest sentit, aquests colors semblen també ser cossos. Així, gargots, taques o esquitxades s’enfilen adonant-se que volen ser Brot, branques, fulles, bassals, però també&nbsp;ganyotes, Maranya, braços o cames de personatges. Potser és la necessitat d’intercanviar baf o saliva, perquè el procés infecciós de contagi tingui lloc, que les obres també sorgeixen co&nbsp;a paisatges marins, núvols, Ocells i peixos, d’altres, fotogrames de cèl·lules o de bacteris vists a través d’un microscopi. El cos de l’artista ha intuït el rumb&nbsp;de les traçades i guixades sobre les teles de la mateixa manera que n’ha cosit, desplegat o retallat d’altres; el collage, l’entramat o l’ús de pedaços sobrants&nbsp;ha permès desfer i refer-ne els límit&nbsp;i reanimar-los com a teixits, tapissos&nbsp;o objectes-joc*. D’aquesta manera&nbsp;hi han col·laborat també altres cossos, compartint converses, processos i espais, descartant idees i incubant-ne d’altres. Així, s’ha format aquest ecosistema de&nbsp;la mateixa manera que es contagia un badall, una cançó, o un atac de riure. L’amor, l’amistat, la revolució, també&nbsp;són contagis. *Mariona Cañadas i Pedro Murúa han utilitzat descartes de l’artista com a trama i ordit, i com a suports per a un joc-objecte. is a learning and production residency grant organized by Cortex Frontal (Arraiolos, Portugal). In my case, I was based in Mértola, a village in the Baixo Alentejo with a very rich historical past, shaped by the Guadiana River, where I had the opportunity to learn from the weavers at the Oficina de Tecelagem (Weaving Workshop). This cooperative was established in the late 1980s, as part of a regional archaeological recovery project, with the aim of preserving ancestral knowledge and textile techniques. The workshop is a living museum, where looms and tools over 300 years old are still in use. There, wool is washed, carded, and spun, then skeined, wound, warped, and beamed, before finally being woven into traditional blankets featuring a variety of patterns. During the residency, I worked on these looms, whose wooden parts have been rounded and polished by the wear of countless hands over generations. In my own process, instead of weaving with wool, I used fragments of old and discarded paintings as if they were thread, incorporating them into the textile-making process. The resulting works become woven-paintings or pictorial tapestries hybrid pieces that explore the boundaries between painting and textile. These works invite us to reflect on the passage of time, transformation, repair, and change, while highlighting color, composition, materiality, and manual labor. Painting, which originally rests upon fabric, is here fragmented to once again become fabric. A fabric that acts as a meeting point between past and present, where different temporalities intertwine to create a visual, cultural, and symbolic palimpsest much like Mértola itself, a town steeped in history that has, over the centuries, embraced multiple civilizations: Islamic, Roman, and Christian. <img width="3024" height="4032" width_o="3024" height_o="4032" einaidea&nbsp;at Grau-Garriga Contemporary Center Textile Art, St. Cugat, September 2023. The concepts of fiber, circularity, rituality and interspecies collaboration—expanding the relationship intrinsic to herd-shepherd-ecosystem—ignite einaidea's invitation to Tornen les Esquelles to participate in the project Aurèlia Muñoz. Taller Aeri. Their process begins with a residency at Casa Aymat Espai de Creació throughout the spring 2023, which is developed as a collaborative work, both intimate and open, and takes the evocative title of Placenta. Involving co-creators Ana Vivero, Martina Manyà, Daniela Duarte, Florencia Toro, Mire Garcia and Esther Clusas, and the contributions of Solange Dalannais, Ina Olabarria, Pan Wei Ju, Monica Kopatschek, Ana López Serrano, Remei Areny-Joval, Marta Collell, Mar Saiz, Marta Balaguer, Marcos Martinez, Eva Sarmiento, Monica Moreno and Enric Gaspar, the process emanates into a series of felt objects and tapestries, as well as a shepherd's smock made of recovered wool from local sheep based in Collserola. This allows a new exploration which gives continuity to work carried out in 2022, together with eina obra, in this ecological context. Placenta is presented on 19 September as part of the public programme of Aurèlia Muñoz. Aerial atelier, opening the project to a public exploration and debate. The intervention of Tornen les Esquelles brings the primitive process of of wool felting—and its movements of pressing, pressure, but also dressing, protection and transformation— into dialogue with Aurèlia Muñoz's interest in the ancestral arts of the Upper Paleolithic. Coexisting procedurally and physically with the artist's work, the project allows to address the material dimension of fabric—collaboratively produced and coloured with plant-based dyes—as an alive, interspecies one, as well as a vehicle for collective, ritual and ecofeminist processes. This symbolically dialogues with the also-interspecies cosmology present in the work of Aurèlia Muñoz, and highlights the materiality, not only textile, that forms it: from the manual dyeing of its vegetable, animal and synthetic fibers, to the pressing and artisanal production of paper, and the use of stones and other found materials. It also highlights the social dimension of wool, giving visibility to the work of shepherds and generating public felting activities, which allow us to address performatively the recovery and recycling of local wool.
